Test proposed for the Arabic countries as an exercise
for their conscienceBy Bushara Ahmed Gumaa
May 23rd, 20051. What would happen if the hangmen responsible for Darfur's atrocities were the victims? I mean, suppose that the Janjaweed militia was formed by "ZURGA" (black darfurians) and the Sudanese refugees in Chad were Arabs, and the majority of the victims in Darfur were Arabs, too. Instead of black indigenous.
1.1 In this case, would the Arabic world keep indifference with respect to Darfur's atrocities or it would mobilize and protests energetically in favour of their brothers?
1.2 .Would they shout protesting against the Genocide or they'd keep watching the spilling blood , the corpses of the murdered children, elders and women on TV, from their sofas. And pay no attention to the macabre number of almost 400.000 victims in Darfur?2 Would the Arabs help the victims establishing an effective air bridge, as the ex-dictator Sadam Hussein did to help his brothers in Mauritania. When they had a brief war against the black Senegalese between 1989 and 1991?
3 Would they support the UN resolution 1593, which gives green light to the ICC (International Criminal Court) to prosecute the culprits of Darfur's atrocities or they'd say that it's a Sudanese issue?
4 Would they support an unworthy and wretched solution for darfur's conflict based on covering the mouths of the victims' relatives with few dollars, so as to wash the hands of atrocities’ architects, which stained with blood. Such as the dictator Omar Al-Bashir, his right hand Taha, etc. or they would look for a worthy solution that dignifies the victims and their relatives, and solves the problem from the root?5 Would they lie saying that Darfur's conflict is caused by tribal and natural resources disputes or they would say the truth: There’re social injustice and discrimination?
6 Why do Arabic countries sympathize with the Arabic minority in Iran and support their claims? Because they've got Arabic blood or because their claims are just, and the Arabs are always opposed to injusticeness and in favour of all ethnic minorities who suffer from injustice, in all over the world.7 Why the Arabic world doesn’t do any effective measure to solve the eternal Somalia civil war, even though this country belongs to the Arab League?
7.1 Because they haven't got Arabic blood or because there're different classes of memberships: first, second and third class member.
7.2 The Lebanon, is it first, second or third class member?
7.3 Why the countries that stop the Lebanese civil war, solving their differences,
Didn’t do the same with Somalia. As you know the Lebanese civil war was more complicated than the somalian, since it was a religious, but the somalian war is based on politics and ethnic issues. Because almost all Somalis are Muslims.8 Why Arab world didn't worry about the civil war in south Sudan, since the beginning. Even though, it continued for almost half century? Because the majority of the victims were not Arabic (black Africans with Arabic passport) or because Sudan is not like Lebanon, I mean, it’s not a first class member of the Arab League.
9 What does it mean to be Arabic ? To have Arabic blood in your veins or to be an Arabic passport holder, because your country belong to the Arab League?
9.1 Is Dr. John Garang an Arabic man ?10 What kind of interests does the Arabic league serve ?
10.1 Would the Arab League adopt someday the ethnic minorities' languages as official, beside the Arabic language?
10.2 Would the Arabic countries recognize the rights of the ethnic minorities someday, and treat them as first class citizens, permitting them to occupy any position, even to be a president. Independently of his / her colour, ethnic group or religion?
